I woke up to a computer beeping. I try opening my eyes, but they were swollen shut. I felt a wet cotton ball on my forehead and a light shining in my face. “Hey, buddy,” someone said as he lifted the lamp so I could see the silhouette of his head. I tried to speak but couldn’t find my voice. The man leaned down and wrapped me in an embrace as if he knew what I wanted to say before I had even realized it myself. “It’s alright now, we have you here with us and we won’t let anything happen again. ” A woman walked over and placed a bandage on my head. “We are just going to have to wash that cut real quick before it gets infected. A doctor will be here soon,” she said with a slight accent. A twinge of pain shot up my leg as I tried to move. The man gently helped me sit up so I wouldn’t fall. A wave of nausea pulsed through my body as I gazed around the room. A group of people huddled around me, speaking in hushed tones as they tended to my wounds and bruises. I opened my mouth, trying to speak again but it came out like a sputter instead. I turned to the man standing over me. He held a cup to my lips and I slowly drank while I tried to grasp his words. “Thank you,” he said. “We’re going to take care of you. If you can follow my instructions, we can get you on your feet again in no time at all,” he said with a smile. “You’re safe here, but we need to know what happened to you if we are going to make sure this never happens again. ” I nodded my head and the man helped me lay back down on the cot. “When did you wake up?” he asked. I tried to figure out what day it was when I was abducted; it had been three days since I had last seen my family. My wife would be worried sick about me, but there was no way I could contact her like this. “Three days ago,” I said in a cracked voice. “You’ve been asleep for three days?” he asked as an incredulous look came across his face. “Are you alright? You look like you could sleep for another week,” he said. I tried to sit up again; the pain in my leg was excruciating. cfa1e77820
